Paul Simon

Best known for his work with Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon is a highly celebrated singer-songwriter and guitarist.  Among many other awards and recognitions, he has collected 12 Grammys, was selected as one of the “100 People Who Shaped the World” by Time Magazine, and was named the first recipient of the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

After Simon & Garfunkel broke up, Simon went on to record several critically acclaimed solo albums, the most successful of which being 1986’s Graceland, which featured the groundbreaking use of African rhythms, branching into what is typically considered world music.  In 1990, Simon followed up Graceland with the successor album The Rhythm of the Saints, which incorporated music flavors from Brazil and the American south. These albums were pivotal in propelling world music to the popularity it retains to this day.
