Black Sabbath
On this day in 1971, Black Sabbath, one of the most prominent innovators of heavy metal, released their second studio album in the United States: Paranoid. Paranoid is often considered the crown jewel of the Sabbath discography and one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time, including tracks still immensely popular to this day, such as “War Pigs” and “Iron Man”.
The album was originally going to be called War Pigs, but Vertigo Records changed it to Paranoid, fearing backlash from supporters of the then ongoing Vietnam War.
